On Saturday (6 April) you might have heard the utterances of the name Balloon Bloke. You were probably under the impression that it was just another 'bloke' handing out balloon animals...well you were wrong.
Proving once again that extraordinary things happen in Cape Town and the Western Cape, former paramedic, Matt Silver-Vallance successfully attempted a "daring flight from Robben Island to Cape Town's mainland using only helium balloons"!(@balloonbloke)

Foggy conditions hampered the take-off, from what used to be Nelson Mandela's home for many years during his imprisonment, but the team was still determined. Matt eventually took-off around 11:45am and floated across shark infested waters, where a SA Navy vessel sailed in support. He intended on landing at Eden on the Bay, but because of the bad weather, he landed at Sunset Beach not too far away, just before 1pm.

The aim of the defying stunt is to raise money for Nelson Mandela's Children's Hospital. On Saturday he had already raised R70 000. To help donate to the cause and reach the R10 million target you may visit the Officical Balloon Run Website, the Robben Island Balloon Run Facebook Page or @Balloonbloke.
